ABOUT ME

I am an applied microeconomist. My research focuses on development, economic history, culture and institutions, and the intersection of these topics with the environment. I received my PhD in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2015 and joined the School of Economics at UNSW Sydney shortly thereafter. I have previously held consultancies with the World Bank, and prior to my academic career, worked for several years in boutique financial services. I now sit on the executive committee for the Adasina Social Justice fund.

Recently, I was awarded the Paul Bourke Award for Early Career Research by the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. You can watch me talk about my research as it relates to the award here. I am also a 2020 recipient of the Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA) from the Australian Research Council (ARC).

My work often takes me to various corners of the world, including East Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Pacific Islands. The banner photo you see above was taken while conducting field work in the Solomon Islands.
