Rutland High School Band

The Rutland High School Band has a long tradition of excellence. The band typically presents four concerts each year (October, December, March, May) in addition to performances in the Rutland Halloween Parade, the Loyalty Day Parade, the city's Memorial Day Ceremony, and RHS Graduation.

The bands perform a wide variety of music, ranging from band "classics" to contemporary pieces, movie/show scores, and much more. The bands perform separately on portions of concerts and combine forces for parades and community events.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • The RHS Band marched in the 1961 Inaugural Parade in Washington D.C. for the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy.

  • The RHS Band returned to Washington D.C. in 2001 to participate in the festivities associated with the inauguration of George W. Bush.

  • In 2010, RHS had a piece of music written specifically for the Symphonic Band. Dr. Gene Milford, professor at The University of Akron in Ohio, was commissioned to write a four movement suite, originally titled "Four Vermont Prints." The band gave the world premiere in March of 2010 at the annual Music in Our Schools Month Band Concert. Two years later, Daehn Publications began to publish the music for worldwide distribution under the title "Suite for Band: New England Sketches." The title was altered to have a "broader appeal," feeling the original Vermont Prints title was too regional for mass marketing. Read more about the tune HERE.
