NORTHUP AVENUE YARD ENGINEHOUSES

THE ROUNDHOUSE AT THE NORTHUP AVENUE YARD

Plans were drawn at the time of World War I for a large roundhouse to be built near the hump of the new gravity yard at Northup Avenue. Conditions and needs changed after the war and the roundhouse was not built but material from the excavation for the new route through Pawtucket and Central Falls was used as fill at the site.

Blueprint revised through December 13, 1920.

THE DIESEL HOUSE AT NORTHUP AVENUE

When the Charles Street engine facility was closed in the early 1970's to allow Route 146 to join I 95, an engine house and servicing facility was built at the old car shop area at the Northup Avenue yard just north of Branch Avenue.
