The 7th book is “Technology, Design and the Arts – Challenges and Opportunities”, pp 392, published 24 June 2020.  Editors are Rae Earnshaw, Susan Liggett, Peter Excell, and Daniel Thalmann.  Forewords were provided by Professor Jill Journeaux, Coventry University, UK and Dr Jon Peddie, Jon Peddie Research, Tiburon, California, USA.  This Open Access book details the relationship between the artist and their created works, using tools such as information technology, computer environments, and interactive devices, for a range of information sources and application domains.  This has produced new kinds of created works which can be viewed, explored, and interacted with, either as an installation or via a virtual environment such as the Internet.  These processes generate new dimensions of understanding and experience for both the artist and the public’s relationships with the works that are produced.  This has raised a variety of interdisciplinary opportunities and issues, and these are examined.

The 6th book is "Data Science and Visual Computing", published in August 2019.  It is a jointly authored work by Rae Earnshaw, John Dill, and David Kasik.  It was displayed on the Springer stand at Visualization 2019 in Vancouver, 20-25 October, 2019.  The Foreword was provided by Professor Brian Wyvill, Canada Research Chair at the University of Victoria and Vice-President of ACM Siggraph.  The book provides an overview of the science of Big Data and the history and current methods and practices of visual computing.  The Springer web pages for the book are here -

Level of the Material

The level of the material is appropriate for first year graduate students and in some cases final year undergraduates.  Given the page limitations in the Springer Briefs series, each chapter is an executive summary of a particular topic area and there is an extensive list of References at the end of each chapter for those readers wishing to “drill down” to further detail on the current research issues and challenges.
