Stretching Copper Wire

This video demonstrates the stretching of a copper wire using 100g masses. The experiment is fairly crude, but allows the main features to be observed qualitatively including:

  • Elastic behaviour

  • Yield and plastic behaviour

  • Creep

  • Breaking/fracture stress
