Artist-Gaylen Peterson

Fall Firing–2022

As a Minnesota potter and the owner of "Pine Hill Pottery" Gaylen hopes to serve the community year round through workshops, community education and the sale of fine "one of a kind" ceramic works. The retail showroom reflects his desire to support and give exposure to emerging artists, representing a handfull of "area" artists and their work.

A graduate of MSU-Moorhead, MN with a degree in Art Education, Peterson has been employed at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy (Fergus Falls, MN) as an Art Instructor, since 1992.

He also has earned his Master's of Science in Education-Fine Arts degree from the UW-River Falls. While studying there he had the expressed privilege of studying with potter's Randy Johnston, Wil Ruggles, Douglass Rankin, and Maren Kloppman.

When asked about his work in clay he comments, "My interests lie specifically in the realm of wood-fired functional wares. You will find a combination of wheel-thrown and hand-built pieces amongst my work. This speaks to my appreciation for the aesthetic qualities of useful objects, which define their appeal."

Some of his other creative interests include Printmaking, Photography, and Woodworking.
