R38 Batt Insulation in a Truss Attic

An attic ladder for access is justified for the many trips, careful preparation, and heavy hauling to bring up insulation bags. This job includes my first employment of plywood soffit-vent baffles. Two layers of found insulation have been stripped of kraft facing, and are layered to fill and cover 2x4 truss bottom chords. A top layer of R19 parallel to trusses brings total insulation to about R40. The R19 top batts are Johns Manville AU333 in high-quality consistent shapes 24" x 48".
