ACTIVITIES

The vast area of Mozambique north of the Zambezi has remained virtually unexplored since Jack Vincent`s explorations there in the 1930s. Access to the region is however reasonably good, and a 1998 expedition to Mount Namuli, Gurue re-discovered the country`s only endemic, Namuli Apalis, hitherto unseen since its 1932 discovery and found to be still thriving in the Ukalini forests of this truly spectacular massif. Other exiciting species of the northern forests include the enigmatic and elusive Dapplethroat, Thyolo Alethe and, on Mount Chiperone further south, White-winged Apalis.

In addition, to its many good walks, Gurúè is also the starting point for climbing Mt. Namuli (2419m), Mozambique’s second-highest peak. Mount. It is also one of the most fun climbs.

A “daytrip” visit to the “Licungo Waterfall” with a swim in the pools is an unforgettable experience, exotic Africa poor! The mountain, which is the source or partial source for several rivers, including the Licungo (Lugela) and the Malema, is considered sacred by the local Makua people. As travelers rarely hike up the mountain you should pay particular attention to respecting local customs and sensibilities

Pensão Gurué offers hiking, biking, mountain climbing, and paragliding with your own equipment in the surrounding areas dominated by Tea estates. Climb the Summit of sacred Mount Namuli (2419m - second highest Mountain in Mozambique) after a ceremony with the local chief, and good will from the spirits.

See the Honeymoon House after a 1-hour walk through nice tea plantations, have a nice 'Sundowner' drink overlooking fantastic Peaks of Mountains.

Daytrips and porters can be arranged via Pensão Gurué.
