Reality, Myth and Delusion From retrospective to new vision Artist Patrick Hiatt presents his first one man show since moving to Maryland 10 years ago. “Reality, Myth and Delusion” explores how we perceive what it means to be human. People are not rational beings; therefore, we often define our humanness in realities, myths and delusions based on vague perceptions and misinformation. It’s all subjective. As an artist Hiatt paints his vision of humanity and the forces that drive our existence in fanciful narratives and sometimes humorous terms. His art is an eclectic mix of mythology, nostalgia and personal observation. While the exhibit is comprised mostly of new work it also touches on the past with prints from drawings, illustrations and paintings spanning over 40 years. His early work often reflects his childhood and Midwestern beginnings. He studied art at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and the American Academy of Art in Chicago during the turbulent sixties. Then after serving in the army he worked as an engineer and graphic illustrator. Later he enjoyed a successful career as an IT consultant which brought him to the Washington area. Now he is an award winning painter and exhibits regularly in local and regional group shows. His work has shown in Wisconsin, Arkansas, Virginia, and Texas and most recently 2 galleries in Los Angeles California. “Reality, Myth and Delusion” will be on view at the Urbana Regional Library Gallery April 4th through June 1st 2009. Hours are Sunday 1-5, Monday - Thursday 10-9, Friday & Saturday 10-5. The library is located at the Urbana Town Center in the Villages of Urbana, just off Worthington Boulevard (the MD Route 355 bypass) south of Frederick.
