Society speaks out about structures at risk / La société d'histoire prend la parole

La Société d'histoire a pris la parole plusierus fois cet automne, notamment pour soulever la problématique des sites de valeur patrimoniale qui sont à risque dans le quartier. Nous soulevons les cas des quatres structures suivantes :
La passerelle Saint-Roch, qui sera démolit d'ici peu, selon le Journal de Montréal.
Nous avons fait des démarches avec Mme. Deros et la Ville pour en conserver un élément "patrimoinial".
La maison du gardien de l'école Barclay, qui fait face elle aussi à une démolition imminente le 24 septembre.
L'ancien presbytère de la paroisse Saint-Roch, maintenant loué au groupe d'habitation populaire Hapopex.
Le parc du Centenaire, un projet qui n'avance pas et dont les plans ne semblent pas laisser grand place pour le parc vis-à-vis la chapelle à côté.
Un article est paru dans le journal Metro, ainsi que dans le Progrès Villeray | Parc-Extension. Notre présidente, Mary, a donné une longue entrevue à la radio communautaire CKUT (téléchargez), et les membres Sasha et Audrey ont discuté l'avenir de la passerelle avec la conseillière municipale Mary Deros sur les ondes de la CBC le 13 septembre (Audrey a aussi été le sujet d'un article dans le journal Métro). Tout les trois ont participé, avec John Marshall, à un reportage de Global News le 6 octobre suite à un article paru le même jour dans The Gazette.
Cet été notre membre (et étudiant en urbanisme) Ali Fahas a crée une proposition alternative pour la passerelle et le terrain avoisinant afin de valoriser l'extrémité de la rue Saint-Roch tout en conservant une section de la passerelle (cliquez ci-dessous pour aggrandir l'image) :

Finalement, la passerelle a été détruite le 16 et 17 novembre, 2012. Vive la passerelle !

The History Society has spoken up several times this fall to warn the media about the heritage structures that we believe are at risk in the neighbourhood. Specifically, we have brought attention to the following four structures:
The St. Roch footbridge, which will be demolished shortly according to the Journal de Montréal.
We continued efforts with councillor Deros and the City to retain a "heritage" structural piece.
The Barclay school caretaker's house, which is also facing imminent destruction. Work to start Sept. 24.
The former St. Roch presbytery, now leased to social housing group Hapopex to create social housing units.
Centennial Park, a long-promised project that has gone nowhere and whose plans don't seem to leave much room for the park, compared to the chapel which will be built alongside.
Articles were written in the Metro newspaper, as well as in the Progrès Villeray | Parc-Extension. Our president, Mary, gave a long interview to the community radio station CKUT (download here), and members Sasha and Audrey discussed the footbridge's future live on the CBC with Councillor Mary Deros on September 13 (Audrey was also profiled in the Métro newspaper). All three Society members were interviewed, along with John Marshall, for a Global News television report on October 6 after the publication of an article in The Gazette the same day.
Lastly, this summer our member and urban planning student Ali Fahas created an alternative proposal for the footbridge and the land around it (see image above, click to enlarge). This plan would put to good use the end of St. Roch street by adding a park, garden and bicycle path, while keeping a column of the footbridge as a monument.
