Route Sections

The cue sheet is the final authority on the route, but the following may provide additional useful information.

The route is available on the RideWithGPS website:

You can also ride the route in reverse:

Some notes on the route sections:

  • Part1: Naperville to Batavia - This section takes you out of town and has a nice section through Fermilab. Be sure to stop at all stop signs because the Fermilab police will ticket you if they catch you running any stop sign.
  • Part2: Batavia to Plano - after a nice stretch on Deer Park road, you start getting out into the country roads to the west. After the short jog on IL-47 be on the lookout at MP 27.5 for some local honey for sale in case you want to lug an extra couple of pounds on the ride. Enjoy the stretch on Eldamain road at MP 32 which now has a huge shoulder.
  • Part3: Plano to Ottawa - After leaving Plano you will pass by the Farnsworth House by MP 40. which is pretty cool as the walls are all made of glass. This section parallels the Fox River and has most of the hills, which are pleasant and rolling. There is a 1/2 mile gravel stretch at MP 46, it's a mystery why this section never gets paved. After you pass by Sheridan, you get to the boring out-and-back section at MP 52. Maybe the wind will make it more interesting. When you get to Ottawa you are more than halfway done with the ride.
  • Part4: Ottawa to Yorkville - this heads back on the same boring road you came in on. Hopefully there will be a tailwind. Sheridan has a Subway if you didn't get enough to eat in Ottawa. After Sheridan you will pass by a strange compound at MP 91. Check out the Google Maps satellite view of this place, it is quite extensive. This section has most of the remaining hills and some nice views of the Fox River Valley.
  • Part5: Yorkville to Naperville - the home stretch. Hope you enjoyed the ride!
