Services

Auto Repair Manuals

The library has a selection of older auto repair manuals that are located upstairs in the adult nonfiction area near the elevator. The manuals do not check out, but individuals can make personal copies.

AWE Computer

The AWE Children’s Computers are designed specifically for our patrons ages 2 through 5 and features learning activities and games. The interesting and interactive content is specifically geared for early learning in subjects such as math, science, geography, reading, art/music, writing, and a host of other topics. The hardy built system features a touch screen, mouse, color coded keyboard and is perfect for children just learning to interact with computers. Sessions are 30 minutes long, but can be stopped at any point. A dual set of head phones allows parents and children to follow along together. The AWE is not connected to the internet. They can be found in the Children’s section.

Book Sale

There are racks of used books, magazines and other items at the front of the Library marked for sale. There is a regular rotation of items on these shelves. The money received from these sales is used to purchase new books and materials. All materials are sold as is. Watch for specials and larger seasonal sales.

Computers

The Ontario Library District is pleased to provide 23 computers for public use. For more information on this subject please go to Computers and Internet.

Computer Classes

Sign up is required, please call 541-889-6371. -- This has been suspended at this time due to Covid Regulations.

Craft Hour

The Library has a children’s craft hour, as scheduled on event flyers. Crafts are suitable for children of all ages. Crafts are seasonally themed and include coloring and activity sheets. Parents are asked to stay with younger children. Check out our Calendar of Events for dates and themes.

Donations

Donations of books, magazines and other items are accepted. Donations may be brought to the front desk during open hours. Please call ahead if you are bringing a substantial number of items so that staff can be prepared. Tax donation receipts are available upon request.

DVDs

The Library has a wide selection of DVDs available for 7 day checkout. The entire DVD collection can be found on the south side of the main checkout counter. There are both adult and children’s titles and we have both fiction and nonfiction.

The Library’s Event Letter will keep you up to date with all current events happening at the library. It covers events at the library, monthly reading recommendations, updates on computer classes and book club meetings as well as other interesting tidbits. Paper copies can be picked up at the Library or you are welcome to sign up to receive the email copy here.

Inter-Library Loans

Ontario Community Library is a member of the Eastern Oregon Sage Library System giving us access to 70+ public and school library collections. This gives us the option to order materials from these libraries. So if we don’t have what you are looking for, we can get it!

Library Book Club

The Library has an Adult Book Club that meets once a month. Please feel free to join at any time; all adults are welcome. Books will be available at the library (while supplies last). Please call the library for more information on dates, times and book selections. -- This has been suspended at this time due to Covid Regulations.

Local Research & Obits

The Library has a large collection of historic books, newspapers and other information available for research purposes. For more information on this service, please go to: Local Research

Magazines

The Library has an extensive selection of adult and children's magazines and a wonderful reading area. All but the current month of a magazine may be checked out for 21 days. Children's magazines can be found in the children's area of the library and may also be checked out. Go here for our Magazine List.

Meeting Room

The Library has a meeting room that is available for public use. Reservations are required. The room seats up to 50 people. Events and meetings held in the Meeting room must be non profit only. Some chairs and tables are available. There is no charge to use the room. Stop by the library or call 541-889-6371 to schedule the meeting room.

Night Sky Adventure Kits

The Night Sky Adventure Kit is designed to help the novice and experienced star watcher have the best experience when sky watching. The kit contains instructions, a sky quality meter, a Night Sky Planisphere chart, red light flashlight, pen and sky quality log sheets. The kit is available for check out. The Oregon Outback Dark Sky Network and Friends of the Owyhee’s in conjunction with the Ontario Community Library have put together this kit for patrons to check out.

Photocopier

The library has a black and white photocopier available for public use. It is in the front of the library near the main entrance. Copies cost 20 cents each. If you need assistance please ask at the front desk.

PlayAway Tablets

We have added PlayAway Launch Pads to our circulating items. Launch Pads are small tablets built for children with learning in mind. Each Launch pad is a multisensory learning tool, bring together sight, sounds and play. These easy-to-use devices give children and parents a great learning jump start.

Story Time - Virtual Storytime

Story time at the library is a wonderful way to introduce children to the library as well as meet new friends. Our story times are held in the children’s area of the library on Tuesday afternoons (4 pm) and Thursday mornings (11 am). We strive to have a fun and interactive atmosphere, where all children are welcome. There is a story, crafts and coloring. Story time is scheduled for 20 to 40 minutes. Join us on the reading rug. -- In person storytime has been suspended at this time due to Covid Regulations.

Test Proctoring

Proctoring is available - information, appointments and other arrangements may be made with the Library Director Darlyne Johnson.

Tours

If you wish to set up a tour for your class or group, please contact the library for available dates. Please provide an approximate count of participants when calling. There is no charge for these tours and programs.
