January 2019

1.0 The Northern Virginia Backgammon Club (NVBC) meets every Monday.

2.0 The NVBC plays under the USBGF Rules except for the PENALTY POINTS NVBC unique additions and NVBC PENALTY POINTS.

The following USBGF Options are invoked:

    • Legal Moves

    • Use of two dice is Preferred over four dice. (Note Preferred Means if one players wants it it is in effect)

    • Dice landing on checkers is legal.

    • Use of clocks is Preferred. (2 minutes/match point reserve time + 15 second delay)

2.1 The NVBC conducts a single elimination with progressive consolation tournament with 5 point matches in main draw and 3 point matches in the consolation brackets.

2.2 It is highly recommended that players be physically present at the tournament site by 6:45PM. A random drawing takes place sharply at 7:00PM to determine pairings. If a player is not physically present at 7:00PM in the tournament room, they will be considered late.

2.3 LATE PLAYERS: Any player(s) arriving at the tournament site after the start of the random drawing and before play has commenced will be placed as the last seed on the draw sheet. The tournament may be limited to on-time players to enable the tournament to end at as reasonable a time as possible at the discretion of the tournament director.

2.3.1 Late player(s) will be added to the draw sheet only if the tournament director agrees, and will be subject to penalty points in 2.3.2 below.

2.3.2 PENALTY POINTS: Late players shall be penalized with points awarded to the opponent. The first penalty point will be awarded 5 minutes after the after the draw is completed and accrue thereafter at the rate of 1 point for each 5 minute delay.

2.3.3 BYE AND PLAY: Players with a bye and an immediate play match (2nd round) just after the draw are highly recommended to wait to start that match until it is clear there will be no late players added to the field. In most cases, 15 minutes after the completion of the draw should be sufficient. Those that do start anyway should recognize that they may be asked to stop the second round match at the conclusion of a game to allow one of them to play the late player. If the same two players end up playing the 2nd match later the same tournament, they will resume the interrupted match at the same score as when they stopped.
