Statutes for Nordic Committee for Sport Libraries (NORSIB)

Approved with amendments in Jyväskylä 22.08.1986 and in Oslo 08.10.1987

§ 1

The Nordic Committee for Sport Libraries (NORSIB) is a cooperative body for libraries and information centres at sport colleges and sport federation, as well as other sport libraries in the Nordic countries.

§ 2

NORSIB shall promote the further development of the services of the above named libraries, documentation and information centres in the Nordic countries.

§ 3

NORSIB shall

  • serve as a forum where library personnel can exchange ideas and experience

  • deal with matters which may contribute to the quality of cooperation between sport libraries and information centres in the Nordic countries, and in particular deal with tasks which most adequately can be solved on a Nordic basis.

  • encourage

    • increased exchange of publications between the member organisations of NORSIB

    • exchange of library personnel,

    • improvement of the possibilities of inter-library loans, and

    • Nordic cooperation in the development of data banks.

  • function as an advisory body in matters related to sport libraries, sport documentation and information centres, primarily for the Council for the Nordic Sport Colleges (RHIN) and other Nordic cooperative bodies, and

  • contribute to the coordination of Nordic participation in international sport information activities, including participation in IASI-projects.

§ 4

At least one of the staff members from each organisation should take part in the general assembly of NORSIB. The general assembly accepts new members. New sport libraries and information centres in the Nordic coutries may become members, provided they can accept and act according to the NORSIB statutes.

§ 5

Decisions are reached by simple majority. Each country has one vote. In the event of a tie a proposal is not accepted.

§ 6

A decision of NORSIB is not binding for the member institutions and organisations before it has been approved by the institutions or organisations in question.

§ 7

NORSIB shall have its general assembly at least every other year. The meeting should circulate between the Nordic countries, and preferably be held in connection with other Nordic and national meetings if this may be benefical for both parties.

§ 8

NORSIB shall have a steering committee with one chairperson and two members. The chairperson shall come from the country which is to organize the next general assembly, and shall stay in office until all work in connection with the general assembly is completed. One member of the group is to be the former chairperson, whereas the third member is to be the chairperson elected for the period following the next general assembly. The country presently having the chairperson, is also responsible for taking care of the secretarial functions.

§ 9

An extra-ordinary general assembly can be held whenever the steering committee wishes.

§ 10

For all NORSIB meetings an agenda should be distributed at least one month prior to the meeting. Issues which are presented after this may also be included in the agenda, provided that there is general agreement to do so.

§ 11

The NORSIB general assembly shall provide a working program for the period up to the next general assembly, or for a longer period of time. The working program shall state what tasks are to be performed, who is to be responsible for completing the work, possible requirements which are to be fulfilled, and when the task is to be completed.

§ 12

Members of NORSIB are themselves responsible for providing the means for transportation, accommodation and meals in connection with their participation in the NORSIB meetings. Those who organise the meeting shall cover the expenses in connection with the business meeting.

§ 13

Drafted minutes from NORSIB meetings are to be sent all participants within a month after the meeting was held. There is a two-week deadline for comments, whereafter the final minutes are to be distributed to all member institutions and organisations.
