My Pen

In IT (Industrial Tech) this semester, I made a wooden pen. Now, everyone in IT knows how to make one and most of them have, but I'll explain for them.

First, you get a block of wood and a pen making kit. you measure out the length of the tube inside the kit and mark off the length on both sides. Then, you cut the wood on the lines you just made. you then have to drill a hole the size of the tube down the center of the two blocks of wood. The metal tubes should now fit inside snugly. You then have to super-glue the tubes inside the wood. There is probably some excess glue inside the tube and you need to file that off so that when you put it on a lathe, it will be loose. You will need a chisel for the next part. Turn on the lathe and set it to one. Start rounding the block of wood. This is the hardest part of making the pen. You have to hold the chisel loosely against the wood. Once the wood is mostly rounded, turn the lathe to five and start thinning the wood to the desired diameter. Pens with thin wood are better, but more fragile and harder to make. then make a finger grip. Males prefer less of a curve on the grip while females prefer more of one. You can now start detailing. just make lines on the wood where you want. You can finally start sanding! Use a very fine sandpaper with the lathe on and sweep the sandpaper across the wood until it is smooth. You will need a high-friction polish and a rag next. Put some polish on the rag and sweep it against the wood with the lathe on high. Hold it there for about five minutes. then buff it by using a non-polished section of the rag and hold it there for two minutes. You have finished the wood! Now all you have to do is put the pen kit together and you have a wooden pen!
