Extend Windows 7 C:\ Drive Partition

Windows Administrative Tool Partition Extend option is disabled.

So, directly you cannot extent it even if there is space available either on right or left of that partition.

I believe that this is due to the fact that this is C:\ drive

Therefore you cannot use any windows tool to extend the drive.

I used Ubuntu Live CD to boot into live mode and use "gpart" software to extend the partition.

Before continuing the gpart gives warning that Windows C drive if repartitioned would fail to boot.

It would take some time based on disk partition size.

In my case it took 40 mins to add 20 GB to existing 40 GB c Drive to make it 60 GB.

Now, on successful extending the drive as I desired.

I rebooted.

Windows failed to boot.

This is easy to fix.

Get Windows 7 CD and boot it.

Try Repair option.

After that remove the windows bootable disk.

Now, Windows run file as it was running earlier with extended C:\ Drive.
