In 1891, Gerard Philips and his father started the famous firm Philips & Co. Gerard Philips mainly liked research, and therefore he founded the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven which still exists nowadays. Next to his company, which produced a wide variety of products such as medical equipment, he stimulated Dutch science to a great extent. Beside that, his company founded schools, libraries, neighborhoods, even leisure and sports clubs (e.g. PSV, soccer team of Eindhoven). They even build a science museum (Evoluon) that showed the latest technologies to inspire the youth. In my opinion, Gerard Philips' company served society in a way that we no longer see today. Therefore, he is a great icon that inspired me a lot.
