3D Printers

The two 3D printers we have are a uPrint Plus by Dimension and a MakerBot Replicator. Both of these printers are in ECE 221.

uPrint Plus Printer

The uPrint Plus uses ABS plastic and has a build area of 7.75" x 7.75" x 5.75" (LxWxH).

This printer costs $5 per cubic inch of material used.

Will only accept .STL files.

Support material is different from build material and can be removed without affecting the part. Parts that need supports (small parts with things sticking out) are best made on this printer.

MakerBot Replicator

The MakerBot Replicator uses PLA plastic and has a build area of 9.9" x 7.8" x 5.9" (LxWxH).

This printer costs $1 per cubic inch of material used.

Will accept .STL, .OBJ, .THING, or .MAKERBOT files.

This printer has a minimum vertical resolution of 4 mils (100 microns) (fine). Also has a 11 mil (270 microns) (medium) and 13 mil (340 microns) (fast) setting. The smaller the vertical resolution, the slower the print will go.

Supports are made out of the build material. If supports are required, they will need to be broken off the part.
