The Salem State Log

Men's lacrosse fights weather and Central Connecticut for win.

The Vikings (10-2) played to their 7th straight win Sunday, against the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut, in what Coach Eaton called "unbelievable" weather. With pouring rain and gusts of wind that reached 40+mph, the Salem State lacrosse team played to a 7-4 final score. This PCLL victory clinches the regular season for the Vikings with a perfect record of 6-0 against conference opponents. Salem has moved 5 players into the top 10 in scoring in the Pioneer Collegiate Lacrosse League, with the starting Attack line of Dan Sullivan, Torey Nicholson and Ross Arnold holding the top 3 spots. Six different Salem players recorded points in the game. Nicholson scored 4 goals and had one assist, while Sullivan and Arnold had 2 goals and 2 assists respectively. Viking rookie midfielders Chris Henan (2A), Marc Duran (1A), and Alex Verity (1G) also contributed to the Salem victory.

Men's tennis stand at 4-6 on the season.

On Tuesday, April 17, the Salem State Men's tennis team defeated UMass-Boston, 6-3, followed by an 8-1 loss at Bridgewater State College on Saturday, 4/21, leaving the Vikings at 4-6 on the season.

Freshman Adrien Malosse earned the only win for Salem on Saturday, winning the first singles; 6-4, 6-6 (7-2). "He should be second seed at the [Little East] Tournament as he only has lost once in our Conference," coach Turi Lonero said, "[Adrien] sports a five and one record, and has a good chance at winning first singles."

Tuesday saw Salem winning six of the nine matches played, only losing a doubles and single match by just tie-breakers. The first singles team of Malosse/Jim Lozzi played and excellent match but fell 9-8 (7-3). The second and third double teams of Eric Goldberg/Kyle Watson and Rob Thomas/Bogdan Suciu both won thier matches 8-4. In singles, Thomas played well in a close loss; 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-3 at third singles. Goldberg fell 1-6, 0-6 in the second spot. Malosse won first singles in decisive fashion; 6-1, 6--0, while Watson, Lozzi and Suciu also won in straight sets.

The Vikings hope to continue what coach Lonero calls an "examplary" effort by his team. The Little East Tournament is held at Rhode Island College starting April 27.
