TEXT READING ASSIGNMENT FOR THIS WEEK:

5) Ten Plus One Research Project

Research the topic that you have selected. Report your findings on the report sheet.

1) Open the Student Information Sheet document attached below.

2) Complete the document by typing into the text boxes on the template.

3) Save the document on your student drive with your first and last name and class period in the document name. Close the document after it has been saved.

4) Open your district 215 student email and send the document to the instructor as an attachment in an email. Your Last Name, First Name and Class Period must be in the subject line.

"TEN PLUS ONE RESEARCH"

1) Sign in on one of the topic sheets posted in the room and tear off a copy of your topic question.

2) Use internet resources to research your topic. You are looking for ten examples plus one more!

3) Record notes on your topic on your research sheet. (attached below)

TOPICS:(CHOOSE ONE)

1) Ten common pieces of equipment used in chemistry labs.

Find their names, what are they used for, how do you use them. What does it look like.

2) Ten Physical properties. (What is a physical property?) Find out about ten physical properties that chemists use to describe and identify substances.

3) Ten Chemical Pollutants. (What is a pollutant?) Name the pollutant. How does it damage the environment.? Where does it come from?

4) Ten Careers that use chemistry. Name the career and describe how chemistry is used in the career.

5) Ten Common lab accidents and how to avoid them. Describe each accident and how it occurs. Explain what precautions can be taken to avoid these accidents.

6) Ten Elements that are an essential part of good nutrition. Name the element. Write the symbol of the element. How does this element assist in healthy body functions?

**7) Ten recent advances in materials science or chemistry. What is it? Who designed or discovered it. What is it used for?

This research must be completed when you come to class tomorrow.
