Anderson, Yunnan Expeditions

Anderson, Yunnan Expeditions

John Anderson.  Anatomical and zoological researches:  comprising an account of the zoological results of the two expeditions to western Yunnan in 1868 and 1875 and a monograph of the two cetacean genera, Platanista and Orcella.  Bernard Quaritch, London.

This was published for the year 1878, but contemporary sources show that it had not been issued until the following year.  It was issued in quarto.  The first volume was text, and the second volume contained 85 plates (the title-page having erroneously accounted for 84).  They were numerated I--LXXXI, with four in addition to those--XIIIa, XXVa, LXXVa, and LXXVb.  Fifty-one of them were colored.  Plates I--XLIV featured mammals, and plates XLV--LIV featured birds.  Keulemans' signature appeared in 21 of these (12 mammals, 9 birds).  This work was truly Anderson's account of his explorations in southern China (he authored the accounts on its mammals), and Richard Bowdler Sharpe assisted him in preparing the section on avifauna.

Additional examples of plates from this series can be found at this link.
