Chaos shields are la crème de la crème of standard shields.  Simple chaos shields just cycle through various shield types, changing programming strains in either eccentric or set patterns at either eccentric or set rates.  Advanced chaos shields have dozens to dozens of thousands (depending on size) of fist-sized pieces of different shields that change position at random.  The author has always felt that these shields can be dramatically improved by being made reactive to the incoming attack or other form of input.  This can’s be done easily, and will be covered in reactive shields.
