Generative Art

Generative art is art that has been auto-generated by software, typically using a programming language such as Java or Python. Examples of such software are Nodebox and Processing, both free for download and use.

Nodebox has been around since the 90s, starting with Nodebox version 1, and it still works to a certain degree on OS X High Sierra but is unsupported. The current version is diagrammatic rather than based on a programming language, such that blocks of functions are placed to generate the resulting diagrams. The unfortunate part is that with the newer version, support for image (photo) processing has been dropped.

Processing relies on programs written in Java or Python to create images. It has a much more extensive support group and works on numerous platforms...not just OS X.
