Meridith McNeal

Meridith McNeal, Signora della Casa: Lace Dress, 2009, nib pen and ink on paper, 62 x 45"

I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. Recently I realized that no matter what the theme or ideas I am working on, that the heart of my work is about finding the magic in the ordinary.

I often begin a project or series by thinking about history -- cultural, physical and social past of a place or people.  My materials are selected for the purpose of deepening the story and for the evocative quality of the medium; drawing in old fashioned nib pen and ink, painting in Flashe or watercolor, paper sculpture, sewn and beaded objects, site-specific installation and photography.

"This is your life -- the mundane stuff and everything in between.
Untold beauty lies dormant and untapped in the often neglected details."
