ProCab / Cab01

CAB HISTORY/DESCRIPTION:

There has been only one full feature cab offered by NCE. But it had two names and feature changes.

1) The original NCE MasterCab (CAB01) was part of the then MasterSeries of DCC products is on the far left. The Master cab was never offered in a radio version. This cab was also known as V1.2 as reported when the cab first powers up. It is exactly the same as the Wangrow and Ramtraxx cabs.

2) The current V1.3 ProCab replaced the Master Cab which added more buttons and corresponding more options especially with respect to expanded function control. It is the ONLY cab still in production . The cab biggest differences are:

a) Button Support up to F12. One button access up to F12.

b) Momentum Button: Dynamically changes your trains momentum response.

c) Option Button: Free key to program to what ever additional function you want.

d) Shift Button to access shifted functions for all the other buttons. User definable keys. is the older discontinued non toggle and current production toggle version. The picture on the left shows a standard older version while the picture on the right shows a toggle radio version. The early production version had a green LED which was later changed to RED in latter production versions.

RADIO VERSION

The Radio adds a R suffix after the ProCab name.

NCE did offer "radio upgrades" to existing cabs when the radio option was first introduced so a customer did not have to buy new cabs to enjoy radio operation. The original upgrade came in kit form and was installed by the customer. However customer had various level of success with the kit installation. For warrantee reasons NCE discontinued the upgrade kit and offered to do the radio upgrade at the factory for a fixed price. Today the upgrade is no longer offered.

LCD DISPLAY

The LCD display offers the following information on the screen during normal operation

1) Locomotive number

2) Locomotive directions.

3) Function Status.

4) Fast Clock Current Time.

It also operates as a data terminal to access command station function including programming locomotives.

SETTING THE CAB ID/ADDRESS.

The factory default Cab ID/Address value is the same for given class of cab. On a given layout, every cab must have a unique cab ID/Address REGARDLESS of what class of cab it is. The layout owner must to assign unique ID/Address between 2 and 63 to very physical cab. It is best to make the cab with the address number on it and make a list so you do not create two cabs with the same ID. Once assigned, the cab will memorize the ID/Address you assign to inside itself and it does not change even when you use the the given cab on multiple NCE layout.

The process of setting the cab address require one holding down the SELECT LOCO key when you turn on the cab or plug it into a cab panel that is on. The cab will wake up with the LCD display will prompt you for a cab ID/Address number. Press the number to be assigned to the cab and then press the ENTER key. The LCD display will change from requesting a cab ID to normal operational screen content.

RESETING THE CAB and DEFAULT ID/ADDRESS

The process of reseting the cab starts the same way as setting the cab ID/Address. However if you enter cab ID/address 0, the cab will reset back to factory default values.

DEFAULT CAB ID/ADDRESS (NON TOGGLE VERSION) = 3
