Featuring the CA Rare Fruit Growers Heirloom Apple Tasting and 3rd Annual Pie Baking Contest

Celebrate the Live Oak Grange's 90th Birthday at the 2022 Fall Festival!

Eat pie with neighbors and friends, participate in the Heirloom Apple Tasting, play old-fashioned corn hole, win a pie at the pie walk, listen to live music, make a scarecrow, or just take a stroll through the garden to check out the Grange chickens, heritage orchard and more!

Live Music and Pie Baking Contest begins at 1pm.

Enter your best pie in the contest, or enjoy a few slices of pie!

  • Pie bakers should bring their pies to the Grange by 1pm. See Contest Entry Guidelines below.

  • All pie lovers can participates as judges and pick their favorite pie by purchasing a 'flight of pie' or 3 slices for $10.00.

  • Single slices of savory pie or apple/berry pie with vanilla ice cream will be sold for $5.00.

  • Grange members get a FREE slice of apple/berry or savory pie

Heirloom Apple Tasting begins at 2pm

The Monterey Bay Chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers’ Apple Tasting will feature over 70 varieties of heritage and rare apples for participants to sample and rate.

Admission to the Apple Tasting

  • $5.00 for nonmembers

Pie Baking Contest & Entry Guidelines

To enter the Grange pie baking contest, bakers must submit at least two, 9" pies of the same type at the pie table between 12-1pm on Saturday, October 8. The pie with the most votes wins $100 cash!

Pie Contest Categories:

  • Savory

  • Fruit

  • Cream

  • Custard (contain egg, including flan and key lime)

  • Gluten Free

When you arrive, a greeter will enter your pies in the appropriate category, and provide you with an index card so that you can name your pie and provide details about any other special ingredients, family history, or other information you'd like to share with the public. The winners for each contest category will be announced at 4:45pm. Please label your pie pans and plan to pick them up at 5pm!

Directions and Parking Options

The Santa Cruz Live Oak Green Grange is located at 1900 17th Avenue between Capitola Road and Rodriguez St. in Santa Cruz.

Parking at the Grange is limited. We encourage people to walk, bike, carpool, or take public transportation! The closest Santa Cruz Metro bus stop is route 69 at Capitola Rd. and 17th Ave.

Overflow parking is available at the Harbor Light Church, Live Family Resource Center on 17th Ave., or Live Oak Senior Center on Capitola Rd.
