Pavilion Trust annual report 2017

LSSRT TRUSTEE’S REPORT 2017

The year has progressed well, with the Pavilion becoming very much established as a credible sporting and social venue within the village community. It has also been fundamental in increasing the participation levels within both the Little Shelford Cricket Club and the Shelford & Stapleford Strikers Football Club. As a result, the target numbers set by both the Football Foundation and Sport England, as part of their funding, are being exceeded. However, unless new sports are introduced, we are probably at the limit of those participation levels.

In addition to the rental income from the Cricket and Football Clubs, we continue to attract income from hirings for social occasions and various classes. The Art Class started in 2016 is particularly successful. We have also run three successful Social events during the year, the Summer Drinks Party, the Golf Tournament and the Race Night. We have also received a grant from the Entertainments Committee.

During the year we hosted a Charity event to raise funds for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and also hosted the Summer Art Exhibition and Book launch. Both were very successful events.

As the year has progressed, we have made additions to our equipment etc., such as the Television set as well as matting at the main entrance and turf reinforcement. A monthly inspection is carried out by members of the Committee to identify any problems within the facility and this has isolated some issues which have required rectification. The installation of a shed on the property has enabled the Clubs to store their heavier equipment and eliminate the use of the unsightly container.

As the Treasurer will report, we are getting a better understanding of the running costs of the facility, now that it has been operational for over two years. During the year we have been able to achieve a healthy profit on our activities and given the level of income we are generating through hiring, events etc., we are confident that the Trust is on a sound commercial footing. However, it is important that we continue to build a reserve to cover any unforeseen/planned expenditure we may require in the future.

We are very grateful to Penny Saich who, during the year, has carried out the duties of Booking Clerk and many other functions which help the successful running of the pavilion.

Sadly, we have to report the resignation of Neil Orpwood as a Trustee due to increasing other commitments. Neil has acted as our Secretary and has been a very willing, hardworking and important member of the team since the inception of this project.

Since the formal signing of the lease, we have had a very constructive and helpful relationship with the Parish Council and greatly welcome the input of its councillors on our committee.

Chairman.
