About - אודות ירון פרידמן

Dr. Yaron Friedman studied at his BA and MA at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He received his doctorate from the Sorbonne in 2006, in the field of Islamic Studies. His dissertation in his post-Doc instructed by the late Prof. Kais Firro was on the Alawites in Syria.

He is an Arabic Teacher and lecturer in the department of the Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies in the University of Haifa and teaches Arabic, History of Islam, the Sunni-Shi'i conflict and Arabic at the Technion - The Israel Institute of Technology.

He has published articles in Studia Islamica, Der Islam Le Museon and the Encyclopedia Iranica and Encyclopaedia of Islam 3rd edition.

Yaron's professional experience includes:

- Teaching Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Palestinian dialect

- Lecturer in Middle East and Islam in academic institutions in Israel (see above).

- Arabic Teacher for adults and and at the secondary school level (matriculation examinations in Arabic, History and Middle East Studies).

- commentator on the Middle East in YNET

- Lecturer in French on Jewish Culture and Hebrew Instructor at the Sorbonne IV and Lyon II (2001-2005).

- English-Arabic-Hebrew translator for the Baltimore Sun Newspaper (1997-1998)

- Researcher at the Israel Foreign Ministry (2000)
