HDR & Ph.D

HDR

HDR is a French acronym which stands for "Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches". Roughly, this diploma can be thought as a Second Dissertation or a Tenure. After a long administrative process, I have defended my HDR in October 2010. For administrative reasons, this document had to be written in French and the thesis defended in French. If you can read French please find my HDR dissertation here. If you cannot, you can always have a look at the slides of my defense. Essentially, the focus of this dissertation is on competition and cooperation in (mostly wireless) communication networks. Typical problems such as power control and resources allocation in networks with relays, multi-antenna terminals, or autonomous terminals are studied. Game theory, information theory, learning theory, and random matrix theory are exploited to analyze these problems.

PhD

Following three years with Motorola Labs as a research engineer, I defended my PhD in November 2001. The corresponding thesis has been written in English and is available here. The slides can be downloaded here. Mainly, it concerns channel estimation and multiuser detection in 3G cellular systems. Subspace method, linear prediction, the EM algorithm, and Bayesian techniques are exploited to improve the accuracy of channel estimates with respect to conventional channel estimation techniques such as the least-square error channel estimation. Adaptive antennas and joint detection are exploited to further improve the performance of typical 3G receivers.
