Hexagon blanket patch - crochet

Free Pattern for a Crochet Hexagon.

This pattern uses a 4mm crochet hook (US size 6 or G) and approx 30 metres of double knitting weight yarn for each hexagon.

Start the hexagon using the magic loop method. Work 6 double crochet (dc, US single crochet) into the loop and then join with a slip stitch.

2nd Round: Work 1 chain, and then 2 dc into each dc on the previous round (12 sts) and join with a slip stitch.

3rd Round: Work 1 chain. *Work 1 dc, and then 2dc into the space between the 2dc on the previous round. Repeat from * to the end of the round and then join with a slip stitch (18 sts).

4th round: Work 1 chain. *Work 1 dc into each of the next 2 sts. Work 2dc into the space between the 2dc on the previous round. Repeat from * to the end of the round and then join with a slip stitch (24 sts).

Continue in this way, working 2dc into space between the 2dc on the previous round, until you have seven stitches between the 2dcs. By working the increases in this way, the hexagon develops the angles needed to give it six side.

Next round: Work 3 chain, work a treble (US name, double crochet) into each stitch. When you get to the space between the 2dc on the previous round, work 3 trebles into this space. Repeat and join the round with a slip stitch.

Next round: Work 1 chain. Work in dc as before, working 2dc into the centre stitch of the 3 trebles at the “corners”.

Work two more rounds and then fasten off.
