Research Interests

• • Use of non-destructive sampling techniques for estimating populations of West Coast groundfishes and invertebrates

  • Early life history biology and habitat ecology of Northeast Pacific rockfishes (Sebastes spp.) along the central California coast

  • The physiological ecology of juvenile estuary-dependent fishes, and in particular, the effects of hypoxia, or low dissolved oxygen (DO), on feeding and growth rates of these fishes in the laboratory and in the wild

Current Projects

• • Assessment and monitoring of rockfish (Sebastes spp.) and white abalone (Haliotis sorenseni) populations in the Southern California Bight using a remotely-operated vehicle (ROV)

  • Habitat use and essential fish habitat (EFH) of newly-settled juvenile rockfishes in low- and high-relief benthic habitats in Monterey Bay (with Dr. Susan Sogard, NOAA SWFSC)

  • The effects of upwelling on growth and otolith microchemistry of pelagic juvenile shortbelly rockfish (S. jordani) in coastal California waters (with Dr. Brian Wells, NOAA SWFSC)
