I designed and made this little guy for the Ravelry $10 Amigurumi Swap group. Super-easy to make, but super-cute, he stands about 2½" (6.4cm) high in worsted yarn!
Materials:
All abbreviations using American crochet terms.
Body:
6sc in magic circle in black yarn
Row 1: Inc around (12st)
Row 2: (inc, sc) X 6 (18st)
Row 3: (sc, inc, sc) X 6 (24st)
Row 4: (2sc, inc, sc) X 6 (30st)
Row 6-19: sc around
Around here, if using safety eyes, place them under row 6 or so.
Take approximately 3in (7.5cm) of pipe cleaner, fold in half. Leaving short lengths on the end, twist the beak slightly. Poke through the face between the eyes, and bend the ends out a little on the inside to secure. You can also add a dab of glue to the back for extra security.
Firmly stuff most of body at this point, taking care not to disturb the beak.
Row 20: (dec, 3sc) X 6 (24st)
Row 21 (do all st on this row only through the back loop (tbl)): (dec, sc) X 8 (16st)
Finish stuffing body.
Row 22: dec X 8 (8st)
Fasten off.
Wings (x2):
6sc in magic circle in black yarn
Row 1: 2sc, inc, 3sc, inc, sc (8st)
Row 2-4: sc around
Fasten off.
Belly:
8sc in magic ring in white yarn
Row 1: inc around (16st)
Row 2: (inc, sc) X 8 (24st)
Fasten off.
Sew wings to side of body using whipstitch. Sew belly to belly using backstitch.
Legs:
Cut two lengths of pipe cleaner approximately 8in (20cm) long. Fold in half, and bend pointy toes on either side. Twist a few times right below the toes, then fold up the two ends to 90-degree angle. Shove these up through the bottom of the body, making sure they're symmetrical and look right. Put a dab of fabric glue where each leg enters the body for extra security.
