Chapter History

The Judge Lynn Chapter, NSDAR, was organized on February 22, 1908, by Bertha M. Robbins at her home at 1622 P Street NW in Dupont Circle. At the request of Mrs. Robbins, President General McLean honored the new chapter by giving it the name of her revolutionary ancestor Judge David Lynn, one of the twelve "Immortal" Judges of Maryland. Many descendants of Judge David Lynn are members of our chapter.

"The glory of each generation is to make it's own precedents." ~ Belva Lockwood

Akin to the revolutionary spirit of our Patriots our chapter continues to evolve with the times. As women's societal roles began to shift over the 20th century we knew the key to keeping our chapter vibrant was to meet the growing demands of working women. As a result, in the 1970s we became the first DCDAR chapter to hold meetings during the weeknights. During the coronavirus pandemic we fostered our ties of friendship and service by transitioning to virtual meetings and events. This flexibility has enabled our Daughters to continue the important work of the National Society while balancing the demands of their personal and professional lives.

Judge Lynn Daughters are lawyers, small business owners, health care workers, artists, historians, mothers, government officials, scientists, real estate experts, military service members, and retirees. No matter your age, profession, interests, or schedule, Judge Lynn is a chapter for everyone.

Leadership

Throughout our history, Judge Lynn Daughters have served in leadership roles throughout the chapter, State, and National societies. There's an opportunity for every Daughter in our chapter to grow through service.

Juniors & Pages

The DAR recognizes the Juniors of today as the future of our National Society! Judge Lynn has long enjoyed a robust contingency of young women within our chapter

Our chapter's Juniors build and maintain friendships through service and social activities. We hold happy hours and Junior events. Juniors also raise funds for the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund which awards classroom grants to local teachers.

Our Juniors have served as officers and committee chairs at the Chapter, State, and National levels and support the pagentry and functions of DAR events by serving as Pages. We honor and recognize these Outstanding Juniors for their leadership and service activities.

Our 2023-2024 Outstanding Junior is Mackenzie Beasley.
