John Owen's personal interests

Owen's other interests include the Center for Christian Study, Mars Hill Audio, Regent College in Vancouver, and the Anglican Church in North America (including his local parish, Church of the Holy Cross in Crozet, Virginia).  He lives in Charlottesville with his wife Trish; the Owens have three adult children.  He grew up mostly in Raleigh and is a graduate of New Bern (N.C.) Senior High School.

He is related to North Carolina Governor John Owen (1787-1841, pictured to the right), a Whig who could have become President had he accepted the doomed William Henry Harrison's invitation to be his running mate in 1840.

John Owen's late father, the Rev. J. Malloy Owen, III, entertained the hope -- unsupported by the least shred of evidence, alas -- that the family was descended from Owen Tudor (right), progenitor of the storied and ruthless English dynasty.

Neither, so far as he knows, is Owen related to John Owen the Puritan divine, to Robert Owen the Welsh socialist, or indeed to Owain ap Gruffudd, the first Prince of Wales (right).
