June 25th-30th, 2023: Telluride YAP/TAZ-TEAD workshop. John Lamar and Guy Weinberg organized the 7th annual TSRC workshop in Telluride, CO. John Lamar presented the labs work.


June 9th, 2023: John Lamar presented the labs work on Targeting YAP/TAZ-TEAD in cancer at the 50 years of fibronectin Symposium  at the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT. The event was a celebration reunion for former trainees of Dr. Richard Hynes. It was amazing to see old friends 

May 30th, 2023: The Lamar Lab bids farewell to Kaila Lasher who has accepted a position as a clinical coordinator in Connecticut. Congrats Kaila on your new position and thank you for all your hard work and dedication!  

March 6th, 2023: The Lamar Lab welcomes its newest member Research Technician Chloe Purello! Chloe will work primarily on EHE.

February, 2023: Grant Awarded! We are collaborating with Drs. Margarida Barroso, Uwe Kruger and Xavier Intes on a project using artificial intelligence to classify cancer cells based organelle morphology and topology. We were awarded an R21 grant from the NCI Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) program.

January 2023:  The Lamar Lab welcomes its newest member Ph.D. student Sarah McMullan! Sarah's thesis work will focus on EHE.

January 19, 2023: Paper Accepted! Excited to share the news that a collaborative paper from the Rubin Lab was published in Clinical Cancer Research https://doi.org/10.1158/1078-0432. This work by lead author Caleb Seavey, shows that loss of the tumor suppressor CDKN2A cooperates with WWTR1(TAZ)–CAMTA1 to make EHEs more aggressive. This paper also describes the first EHE cell lines to be derived, a significant advance for a field that has be hampered by the lack of cell lines. Ryan Kanai helped characterize these cell lines and optimize their use in several in vitro and in vivo assays. Special thanks to the EHE foundations for supporting these studies!

August 19th, 2022:  GRANT awarded! The Lamar Lab was awarded a 3-yr $450,000 grant from the EHE Foundation for a project aimed at identifying FDA-approved drugs that can be repurposed to treat EHE.  Tweet

August 18th, 2022:  GRANT awarded! The Lamar Lab is part of a collaborative team awarded an NCI grant to develop new machine learning approaches to analyze cellular organelles in metastatic breast cancer.

April, 2022: GRANT awarded! The Lamar Lab is part of a collaborative team awarded a 2-Year, $491,000 grant from the DOD Rare Cancer Research Program. This work uses the GEMM model of EHE to study the molecular mechanisms of EHE.

April 27th, 2021:The Telluride Daily Planet published an article about John Lamar and Guy Weinberg highlighting the annual workshop they co-organize focused on YAP/TAZ-TEADs and cancer. The article discusses how this workshop has helped promote research on Epitheliod Hemangioendothelioma and also highlights some of the Lamar Lab's work on this rare cancer. April 2021: John Lamar and Ryan Kanai are co-authors on a manuscript from the Rubin Lab entitled "WWTR1(TAZ)-CAMTA1 gene fusion is sufficient to dysregulate YAP/TAZ signaling and drive epithelioid hemangioendothelioma tumorigenesis" which was published in Genes Dev. https://bit.ly/3cPF9vA. This paper developed and characterized the first genetically engineered mouse model of  epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, which is a major advance in this field. 

March 16th, 2021: Ryan Kanai and Emily Norton receive Alumni Research Awards for outstanding poster presentations.

January 15th 2021: John Lamar was invited to speak at the virtual EHE360 Scientific Conference. His talk entitled “Identification of negative regulators of the TAZ-CAMTA1 fusion protein” focused mostly on work from Ryan Kanai. See Here

August 10th, 2020: The Lamar Lab received a $200,000 grant from The Cleveland Clinic Epitheliod Hemangioendothelioma Research Collaborative Program and the Margie & Robert E. Petersen Foundation. This 2-year grant supports research by Ryan Kanai on Epitheliod Hemangioendothelioma, a rare vascular sarcoma the Lamar Lab studies in collaboration with Dr. Brian Rubin.

November 1st, 2019: Janine Warren received an award for her outstanding presentation at the Capital Region Cancer Research Group Symposium in Albany, NY.

October 28th, 2019: A videographer filmed Janine Warren demonstrating her technique for assaying metastatic colonization and growth using live animal imaging which was accepted for publication in the Journal of Visualized Experiments. 

October 6th, 2019: Janine Warren presented a poster at the annual Susan G. Komen Upstate New York “More Than Pink” Luncheon.  

September 27th, 2019: Roshni Kalkur was recognized for her outstanding poster presentation at Albany Medical Center’s Medical Student Research Day.

June 10th-15th, 2019: Ryan Kanai presented his work on EHE at the YAP/TAZ-TEAD workshop in Telluride, Colorado

May 13th, 2019: The Lamar lab was awarded a $50,000 grant from the EHE Fund to initiating a new project to study a rare cancer called epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE). The EHE fund providing the funds is a joint venture between 3 EHE foundations located in the United Kingdom, Australia and the USA. 

May 8th-11th, 2019: Janine Warren and Yuxuan Xiao both presented posters at the AACR Hippo Pathway Conference in San Diego, CA

March 21st, 2019: John Lamar presented the lab’s research to the Capital Region Cancer Research Group.

December 17th, 2018: The Lamar Lab published a paper in the Journal of Biological Chemistry entitled "SRC tyrosine kinase activates the YAP/TAZ axis and thereby drives tumor growth and metastasis". Dr. Yuxuan Xiao, Emily Norton, Janine Warren, Simirin Kooner and Genevieve Gerhard each contributed to the paper, which was among the most viewed papers on the JBC website during February and March of 2019   Paper Link  Tweet

October 6th 2018: The Lamar Lab ran in the 2018 Komen Race for the Cure in Albany, NY. The lab raised money for the Komen foundation and presented a poster on our Komen-funded research

October 5th, 2018: Dr. Lamar was interviewed by local new reporter Benita Zahn. The interview was part of a series of stories related to breast cancer awareness and research. Dr. Lamar talked about the Lab’s breast cancer research and how that research was made possible by funding by the Susan G. Komen foundation. The interview aired on several broadcasts that night and the next day.

August, 2018: Lamar Lab members Ryan Kanai and Emily Norton joined the Albany Med Master's program and will do their Master’s thesis work in the lab.

July 10th, 2018:  John Lamar and Guy Weinberg co-authored a review entitled “Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma as a Model of YAP/TAZ-Driven Cancer: Insights from a Rare Fusion Sarcoma” in the journal Cancers. Paper link

March 7th, 2018: Janine Warren Received Alumni Research Award for her outstanding poster presentation at AMC's Graduate Studies Program Poster Day. 

February 2nd, 2018: Dr. Lamar recieves a Komen new investigator grant to study breast cancer metastasis. The Lamar Lab was awarded a 3 year grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation to study the therapeutic potential of YAP/TAZ activation as a treatment for breast cancer metastasis. We are very grateful to the Komen foundation for its support.

January 2nd, 2018: The Lamar Lab is excited to welcome its newest member Ryan Kanai. Ryan is a recent Stony Brook University graduate who plans to join the AMC Masters program in the fall.

October 30th, 2017: Welcome to Mikaelan Cucciarre-Stuligross and Roshni Kalkur. The Lamar Lab is happy to welcome its 2 newest members: Mikaelan is a recent graduate from Hartwick College and has joined us as a research technician. Roshni is a student at RPI and member of the Albany Medical School Class of 2022. She will be performing her MDDR thesis work in the lab.

October 20th, 2017: Janine Warren presents at MCP Colloquium.

October 9th, 2017: The Lamar Lab welcomes Deborah Moore, a breast cancer patient advocate who has been assisting the lab for several months. She visited the lab today to learn more about our work and meet all of us. 

October 7th, 2017: Members of the Lamar Lab formed a team and participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The lab raised $691 for the Komen foundation. It was a fun and successful day and several of us made a brief appearance on the local news.

July 31st- August 4th, 2017- John Lamar, Guy Weinberg, and Peter Salmon organized a Telluride Science Research Center Workshop entitled: YAP/TAZ and TEAD: At the Crossroads of Cancer (See here). This 5-day workshop sponsored by the CRAVAT Foundation brings together a group of prominent YAP/TAZ-TEAD researchers from academia and industry. 

April 28th, 2017: Janine Warren gave her first colloquium presentation as a graduate student at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology weekly Colloquium.
