About Me

Welcome!

I'm JJ Joaquin, a Professor of Philosophy, a Research Fellow at the Southeast Asian Research Center and Hub (SEARCH), and a Research Affiliate at the Jesse Robredo Institute for Governance (JRIG) at De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines. Recently, I became an Associate Member of the Birmingham Centre for Philosophy of Religion.

My primary research areas are in logic, metaphysics, and the philosophy of religion, but I also work in epistemology, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, moral philosophy, experimental philosophy, political philosophy, and philosophical issues in public health and gender studies.

I'm a member of the Philosophical Association of the Philippines, the Philippine National Philosophical Research Society, the Australasian Association of Philosophy, the Australasian Association for Logic, the Association for Symbolic Logic, the Arthur N. Prior Studies Virtual Lab, and the Sydney School of Realist Mathematics.

With my colleague, Soraj Hongladarom and the support of Yujin Nagasawa's John Templeton Foundation-funded Global Philosophy of Religion Project, I just finished the Philosophies of Appropriated Religions project, which aims to investigate the ramifications of "appropriated" religions in Southeast Asia to the traditional problems in the philosophy of religion. Before this, I worked on the EthiKomiks project, which aims to teach ethics through digital storytelling. I'm continuing the Philosophy & What Matters project, which aims to introduce the general public to cutting-edge research in philosophy.
