Title: "Satellite for 5G"

Abstract:

The next generation of communication services - 5G - will rely on a harmonious integration of networks, with a convergence of fixed and mobile services including satellite communications.

ESA’s Satellite for 5G programme promotes the value-added benefits of space to 5G, by developing and demonstrating integrated satellite- and terrestrial-based 5G services, across multiple vertical markets and use cases. ESA and the European Space Industry have signed a Joint Statement on Satellite for 5G, with a focus on trials and interoperability demonstrations, especially those involving hybrid terrestrial/satellite services. ESA is supporting these activities with its co-funding programmes, enabling industry to increase the attractiveness of incorporating satcom and space assets within their own national and international projects, for instance by enlarging project scope and boosting innovation whilst also reducing risk.
