Language

Galician (Gallego) is a separate language which is older than Spanish and thus closer to Latin. Galician people are bilingual (we speak spanish and gallego). Gallego was banned by Franco (rather ironically, as he was from Galicia) but is now making a comeback. Locally, Spanish is referred to as "Castellano".  If you journey into the mountains, you may well find people who only speak Gallego but this is unusual.
