Indian Civil Service Association

(Incorporating the Indian Police (UK) Association)

About the ICSA

Membership of the IP (UK) Association was for long limited to former IP officers who had returned to the UK. Subsequently it was extended to their wives (or widows), and their children.

The ICS and the IP were both Covenanted Services in British India, their officers being appointed by HM Government in London, and not the Government of India. ICS and IP officers worked closely together in the administration of British India, and as the number of surviving officers declined it was a natural progression for the two Associations representing their interests to merge in 2010.

The ICSA usually organises two meetings a year, both held in London (currently at the University Women's Club). The Annual General Meeting in June includes lunch or tea and a short talk, often by a member. The annual Bernard Budd Memorial Lecture is held in October, followed by supper. Both meetings are open to non-members on application to the Hon. Secretary, details below, or as guests of current members.

The Indian Civil Service Association (incorporating the Indian Police (UK) Association)

Membership of the ICS Association was for long limited to former ICS officers, their wives (or widows) and descendants. A few years ago it was broadened to include those with a special interest in the history of, and life in, pre-1947 India.
