Consultancy

I have acted inter alia as a consultant in developing and analysing a communication survey for the National Provident Institution; prepared a report for DG3 European Commission on New Management Practices and the Use of New Information and Communication Technologies; served as a member of a Committee established by the Defence Scientific Advisory Council (DSAC) where I prepared a report that examined the impact of organization structure on the design of information systems. Inter alia, I have contributed as a speaker to IBM's `Knowledge Management' programme and the Scottish Top Management Forum; advised a number of Universities about their research strategies; participated as a subject specialist in a major strategic review of Uppsala University; and consulted with national and international companies regarding their restructuring programmes through my business, OLC. My primary focus, however, is upon developing contacts with industry and government as a way of ensuring the practical relevance of my teaching and research interests. In this capacity, I have advised the Cabinet Office, delivered an Executive MBA course at Copenhagen Business School and made a number of contributions to Executive Education programmes, including those for WHO, McKinsey and Ernst and Young. In February 2014, I co-organized (with Frank Bold, a Brussels based public interest law firm and Jeroen Veldman) a conference in the European Parliament on The Purpose of the Corporation. Hosted by Richard Howitt, MEP., this conference comprised 120 delegates, including businesspeople, politicians, NGO representatives, trade unionists, shareholder representatives, accounting and regulation body representatives, journalists. They were joined by academics from the fields of Corporate Governance, Law, Economics, Socio-Economics, Accounting, and Organization Studies to debate the purpose of the corporation and new ways to develop the theory, practice and regulation of the modern corporation.
