Welcome to the Heidinger Lab!

The environment is changing rapidly and understanding why some individuals are more resilient than others is increasingly urgent. We take an integrative approach to studying the mechanisms that allow organisms to respond to environmental challenges. We conduct our research on house sparrows (Passer domesticus), small songbirds first introduced to the U.S. in the mid 1800s that are model organisms for studying evolutionary responses to environmental conditions. Our results and the techniques we use can be readily applied to other systems, and we enjoy collaborations with researchers working with diverse organisms.
