Celebrating 150 years in 2009

former Bible Christian Chapel, now residence, circa 2004

It was reported in the 'Register' in 1859 that the Foundation Stone was laid for the Bible Christian Chapel on November 19 1859. The chapel was the only Bible Christian chapel to be constructed in the Mount Barker District and is rapidly approaching its 150th Birthday. In 2004, The Mount Barker Heritage Survey found that the chapel "is an outstanding example of a mid 19th century chapel", which demonstrates church design and construction techniques of the period. The chapel was converted to a private residence in the late 20th century. The chapel's hall retains all its original features (apart from some windows on the western side of the building which were changed in the mid 20 century), including the shingle roof which is now covered by corrugated galvanized iron.*
