FAQ

We have an Equestrian Team?

Yes, we do! The team was founded in 1995 and has been thriving on campus ever since.

What disciplines are offered?

We only offer training and competition in Hunt Seat Equitation. If you have experience in other disciplines, we welcome you to come learn and start riding in a new style!

Where do you keep the horses?

We do not have any horses on campus and we do not own any horses due to the Institute's bylaws. We practice at a farm about 40 minutes away from campus and ride their horses.

I don't have a car on campus, how will I get to practice and competitions?

The team organizes carpools for practice and competitions.

What equipment do I need?

All equipment for the horse is provided, however, you are responsible for bringing any personal equipment. If you plan to compete and ride with the team, you must have the following:

• Helmet

• Tall boots 

  • paddock boots and half chaps are acceptable, but they must match

• Tan breeches

• Black gloves

• White show shirt

Prior to joining the team, please purchase all of the necessary equipment listed. You can shop for all of the items at Dover Saddlery online or there is a location in Alpharetta.

Is this a varsity sport?

No, we are a club sport which means our funding comes from the Student Government Association instead of the Athletic Association. Additionally, the time commitment for the club is much less than that of a varsity sport.

Do you give out scholarships?

No, because this is a club sport, we are unable to offer financial scholarships to our riders.

Are there tryouts?

We hold evaluations, not tryouts, so that our coaches can determine each member's abilities and place them in the appropriate competition level. That being said, our team is open to all levels of riders, from walk/trot, to high level jumping, dressage, and reining. If you're into horses, we're into you.
