The Course

Ghost Train is New Hampshire's original 100-Mile race!  What could be better than spending hours on a New Hampshire autumn day running on a beautiful trail?

The race date normally lands right around peak foliage, and while we are extremely biased, we think this course couldn’t be more beautiful.  The course goes between Camp Tevya in Brookline and the Milford DPW.  (Which is in Milford, just to be clear!)  You will pass Lake Potanipo each time you run through Camp Tevya, several ponds and streams along the course, and even an area built as a summer swimming pond!

Autumn in New England also means Halloween…  While on the trail keep an eye out for wildlife, ghosts, ghouls, bridges full of Jack-o-lanterns, psychedelic tunnels, and skeletons.

The course is the same for all of the races, although different races start at different ends of the trail.  The trail distance totals 15 miles for one out and back and goes between the Milford DPW and Camp Tevya in Brookline.

The majority of the course is fast and flat, and a good percentage is large enough to drive a train through.  (Perhaps a Ghost Train!?)  There are sections that are closer to single track and about 1 mile of an out and back is paved, all of it through Camp Tevya.  Most of the trail ranges from packed dirt and gravel to cushiony pine needle covered dirt. As you'd expect there are roots and rocks, but most of the trail is not technical. There is approximately 300 feet of elevation gain over the 15-mile course, most of it from s one hill that has many roots and rocks, and those roots and rocks come alive and can reach out and trip you up the longer you're on your feet!

The course is very easy to follow and will be marked on race weekend. There are four road crossings - please look both ways and be careful!  There are two tunnels, one 9 foot high and the other about 6 foot high.  If you are taller than the tunnel, keep your head down!

In the spirit of Halloween (see what I did there?) you should expect to see some spooky and maybe even creepy things out on the trail at night!  We don't call it the "Ghost Train" race for nothing!  This may be the only race in the world that is haunted...  But don't worry - you'll see your friends on the out and backs.  Unless they disappear on you...
