About The Ride

We are Doug and Jon, two long time friends from Portland, Oregon who plan the adventure of a life time - to experience America from the seat of a bike. The journey begins in the summer of 2014 with the ceremonial dip of our back tires in the Atlantic Ocean at Yorktown, Virginia and ends in the summer of 2015 when our front tires roll into the Pacific Ocean at Florence, Oregon. Along the route we will visit historic sites, marvel at scenic wonders, ascend over the Virginia Appalachians and the Missouri Ozarks, then cross the great plains states to the Rocky Mountains at Pueblo, Colorado. By this point we will have covered 2200 miles - the half-way point of the trip and the end of the first summer of riding.

In the early summer 2015 we will start at Pueblo and literally ride the crest of America crisscrossing the continental divide 9 times as we swing to the northwest through Colorado and Wyoming. The ride then showcases the national parks of the Tetons and Yellowstone. Then it is on to the north to follow the path of Lewis and Clark across the Bitterroot mountains of Idaho. Our home state of Oregon will greet us by the middle of July. The high desert of eastern Oregon, a climb over the Cascade Mountains, and the coastal mountains complete the 4230 mile adventure on the beach at Florence, Oregon.
