Placement Activities at School of Computational Sciences

The first company to visit the campus was IKANKSHA, a mobile engineering company that is into designing and developing solutions for various mobile platforms.

The third year (fifth semester) Master of Computer Applications (MCA) students are eligible for the campus placement interview. After two years of rigorous training in computer sciences and their application by way of projects at every semester, they are expected to be ready to enter the real world of software engineering and development; to expand their careers.

This year (2010-2011) the School had 47 MCA students in fifth semester. Myself (GBB) and my colleague, Mr. Sushil S Bansode (SSB), another Assistant Professor on visiting, were assigned the job of preparing these students for their interviews on a short notice of a day. Following are the details of the activities that we conducted jointly for the same.

Details on chronology and tasks managed for the placement activity

    • Date of visit of company (IKANKSHA): 25th July 2010, Sunday.

    • Mock Interviews held: 23rd (Friday) and 24th (Saturday) July 2010. (GBB+SSB)

    • Feedback based on the mock interviews: 24th July 2010. (GBB+SSB)

    • Suggestions on the Resume: 23rd July 2010 (GBB)

    • Suggestions on the Resume and How (not) to face the Interview: 24rd July 2010 (GBB)

Basic statistics on the work performed

    • Total number of 5th semester MCA students: 47

    • Total number of students who attended mock interview: 40

    • Total number of students who took personal feedback based on their mock interview: 34

    • Individual mock interviews for each student, personalized feedback for each one, group counseling for resume guidance, and coaching for interview were organized almost without any break in these two days (23 and 24 July 2010) between around 10am to 6pm every day.

OUTCOME

    • 25 July 2010 (Sunday): 14 students were shortlisted.

    • 27 July 2010 (Tuesday): 6 students were selected.
