What We Do

Located in Sanankoroba 25 miles south of Bamako, Gamou Farms has three main focuses: Training, Research and Consulting.

1- Hands-on-Training: Our grazing operation serves as a model center where Ag and Vet students from around the world, learn how to sustainably produce crops and livestock through tailored internships. Upon completion, Gamou Farms will help the graduates find a job or start their own businesses in production, processing, consulting, sales, research or any other opportunity within the industry.

2- Research: We firmly believe in the crucial role of Scientific Research in solving world's problems, hence our involvement in two major ones with the Universities of Wisconsin - Madison, , Georgia - Atlanta and Mali - Bamako.

-The Fonio project:

Fonio - Digitaria Exilis, this 7000-year-old, drought tolerant, Striga resistant and Gluten free cereal crop, is very low yielding due to seed shattering and lodging. Losses of 30 to 50% are common even in its region of origin. Gamou Farms and the three aforementioned Universities are joining forces to study and Genetically address those issues in order to bring Fonio en pare with other high yielding crops like Corn, Wheat or Rice.

- The Dairy project:

West African and most tropical Dairy breeds produce a mere 1 to 5 kg of milk a day versus 30 to 40 kg for their European and North American counterparts. So, Gamou Farms, assisted by the University of Mali - Bamako , is spearheading the creation of the "Optimum Cow" producing 15 to 20 kg of milk but also adapted to tropical conditions. The Genetic sequencing and authentication of the parent breeds would be conducted at the University of Mali - Bamako. Donations are welcome.
