*I've been really impressed with the Volca line. Like they are shit, but good shit. Gimmicks aside, they are *just* capable enough to create full songs with the right tricks and techniques. Their limitations are like solving puzzles in real time and being rewarded with unique textures or effects that you would of otherwise not discovered. You can even buy two Volca FM's and with a small Max patch linking the two you can recreate your very own desktop DX7! People are still finding out new things about them and modifying the neck out of them. I don't recommend modifying them yourself unless you have some decent soldiering and flux skills (it took me 2 hours to do my snare mod for the beats). Pay someone who is skilled with soldering SMD gear an eighth of marijuana to do the snare mod if you get a Volca Beats. They are totally worth voiding the warranty and customizing like crazy if you have no plans to resell.
