Cavalry Regiments
An Illustrated History of the Embroidered Silk Postcards is the standard reference book on embroidered silk postcards. It contains references to over 2600 different cards with over 270 illustrations. The section on Cavalry Regiment lists 83 cards. The cards listed below are additional cards discovered since the book was published. The latest additions are shown in RED.
The Cavalry Regiments hold the highest precedence of all the regiments in the British Army. The Household Cavalry is the most senior, as its main function is to protect the monarch. In the First World War period there were also seven regiments of Heavy Cavalry and twenty-one regiments of Light Cavalry.
All embroidered silk postcards of Cavalry Regiments are rare, which reflects the smaller size of each regiment, and the lower number of cards that were published for them.
Images of a representative selection of cards are shown beneath the listings.

There are only three regiments in the Household Cavalry. A representative image for each regiment is shown below. In total, ten different designs have been recorded.
The images below are examples of embroidered silk cards for each of the seven Heavy Cavalry Regiments. In total, 21 different designs are known.
There were 21 Light Cavalry Regiments in the First World War period. Dragoons were armed with carbines (short rifles), Hussars had swords and Lancers carried lances. In battle, all of them changed their main offensive weapons to a rifle. Sixty-one cards are known for Light Cavalry Regiments and a representative sample of each one is shown below.
