Ellis-Davies lab research

The lab is best known for using synthetic organic chemistry to develop many caged compounds (or photoactivatable probes) that have been widely used by physiologists, cell biologists and neuroscientists around the world. For more than twenty years we have pioneered the development of such probes.

In the past few years we have devoted a good deal of time and money to assembling state-of-the-art two-photon microscopes. We are now seriously applying this imaging technology to the study of cellular function in living brain slices and mice.
